With this transom strengthening solution, the weight of the engine does not only load the transom on the 4 screw heads and washers, but also distributes the weight of the engine evenly from top to bottom in a horizontal direction, which later relieves the transom and provides a safer solution, as it rests on a larger surface and the engine is loaded.
Above 150 horsepower, it is definitely recommended to fasten the outboard with the Vance Jackplate at the top and bottom with the transom plates and support it on the inside.
